Benthic survey at Whareponga, East Cape
Benthic resurvey at Whareponga on the East Cape of the North Island. From the 6th to the 9th of May 2016, TMK team and local community members conducted a survey to provide the local whānau with information on key species within the local fishery (pāua, kōura, kina and toetoe). The team focused on repeating surveys last undertaken in 2011 and also established new sites to be monitored again in the future. At the end of the trip the team presented some preliminary data to Te Aitanga-a-Mate Hapū. The team would like to thank the whānau from Whareponga for their generous hospitality on the marae and for their support during this mahi. A special thank you to Eliz, Panapa & the year tens from Ngata Memorial College for your help in the field.
